Halloween paper crafts for kids

Start with one friendly paper ghost. This free guide gives you a short materials list, four easy steps and simple ways to display what you make together.

Your first decoration

One sheet. One small making session.

You do not need a cupboard full of supplies. Clear a little space at the table, choose where the finished craft can dry and decide together where you might display it.

Make a paper ghost

Draw. Colour. Cut. Display.

Use these as a gentle starting point, then make the character your own.

  1. 01

    Draw

On white paper or card, draw a friendly ghost with a rounded top and a wavy lower edge. Make one large and one small shape if you like.

  2. 02

    Colour

Add faces or patterns. A few marks are enough; children can choose whether their ghosts feel funny, shy or a little spooky.

  3. 03

    Cut

An adult should handle or closely help with cutting, especially around small details. Keep sharp tools and tiny offcuts away from younger children.

  4. 04

    Display

Stand the ghosts on a shelf or table, or try removable tape on a window. Test the fixing on the surface first and keep paper away from heat or naked flames.

A little help, if you want it

One free outline. Your own character.

Prefer to skip drawing the shape? Open our free, blank ghost outline and print it on one sheet. Add your own face and colours before a grown-up helps with the outer cut. The outline is optional: you can make the same craft by drawing it yourself.

Choose “fit to page” for A4 or US Letter. Only the outline is supplied; paper, tools and decoration materials are yours.

A quick grown-up check

Make room for safe making.

Keep scissors, glue and small offcuts appropriate to the children's ages and supervise the session. Check surfaces before using tape. Keep finished paper decorations away from candles, hot lights and other heat sources.

After your first ghost

Build a bigger paper scene, if you want to.

Draw another design yourselves, or explore Midnight Makers for six printable Halloween characters. The digital bundle offers a ready-coloured route and a colour-your-own route in A4 and US Letter. Choose one craft, one route and the paper size you need; you do not need to print every file.

The Pumpkin sheet alongside is genuine template proof. It is not a photograph of an assembled craft. The bundle is a digital download; a printer, paper or card and making materials are supplied by you.
